Oireachtas Committee to resume consideration of public petitions

The Oireachtas Joint Committee on Public Service Oversight and Petitions will tomorrow afternoon consider another batch of public petitions received.

4 February 2014

The petitions to be discussed relate to:  

  • 75/2012 - A call for a public inquiry into the process of granting Foreshore Licences, especially in the wake of the grant of such a licence for exploratory drilling for oil and gas 6 km from Dalkey (Melissa Halpin)    
  • 07/2013 - Concerns over inappropriate standards related to dive industry legislation (Paddy Lambe)
  • 10/2013 -  The failure of the State to provide a framework for rectification of errors made by the banking system, specifically in relation to indiscriminate over-lending (Patrick Smyth)
  • 18/2013 - A call for legislation to curb cyberbulling (Killygordon & Crossroads Youth Club)
  • 23/2013 - A dispute between Petitioner and the Department of Enterprise (Frank Mulcahy)
  • 24/2013 - Recruitment policy within RTÉ (Kevin Sharkey)
  • 30/2013 - Constancy of Public Office (Desmond Lafferty)

Chairman of the Committee Pádraig Mac Lochlainn TD says:  “Our Committee looks forward to carefully considering a range of petitions received from members of the public on a variety of issues at tomorrow's meeting. Committee Members continue to encourage any individual citizen or group with concerns around the delivery of public services to make a petition, which will be carefully considered by the Committee. There is a standard form which we request all petitioners to complete, which is available at petitions.oireachtas.ie and can be completed and submitted online, emailed or sent by post.”

The meeting takes place tomorrow Wednesday 5 February in Committee Room 3, LH 2000 at 4 pm. The meeting will commence in private session, before reverting to public session at 4:45 pm. Public proceedings can be viewed online via here.
