Uisce Éireann chief executive to appear before Environment Committee

10 Feb 2014, 10:53

The Committee on Environment, Culture and the Gaeltacht will focus on progress in the set-up and roll-out of services by Uisce Éireann at its meeting tomorrow Tuesday, 11th February 2014 when it meets with Chief executive of Uisce Éireann John Tierney.

Michael McCarthy, Cathaoirleach of the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Environment, Culture and the Gaeltacht, said: “Last month, in a special meeting we had an opportunity to examine the operation of Uisce Éireann and address public concerns over spending levels at the new agency. Tomorrow we will receive an update from Uisce Éireann managing director John Tierney on the set-up and roll-out of services by the water utility. As well as considering developments to date in putting in the physical infrastructure to deliver and distribute water, we will also be keen to get an up-to-date briefing on the corporate and administrative set-up, including costs and spending. Public confidence in Uisce Éireann needs to be strong and the maintenance and adherence of necessary standards of service to customers will also be key to underpinning that public confidence. We’re looking forward to a frank and open discussion with Mr Tierney on the set-up and operation of Uisce Éireann.”

The Committee meeting will start at 2.15pm on Tuesday, 11th February in Committee Room 4.
