PAC welcomes review of governance and structures at Rehab

8 Apr 2014, 13:15

The Committee of Public Accounts has welcomed the announcement from Rehab that it is to appoint independent consultant Dr Eddie Molloy to conduct a root and branch review into governance and structures at the organisation.

Committee Chairman John McGuinness TD said: “We note that the Rehab board has acknowledged that the charity’s response to recent public and political demands for information has been inadequate and the Committee sees the appointment of Dr Eddie Molloy as an important first step in initiating a change process at the charity. The whole issue of change and transformation is a subject we will address at our meeting on Thursday with Rehab. We will consider in detail the changes necessary to ensure there is adequate transparency, accountability and oversight at Rehab.

“The Committee has still not heard from former Chief Executives Angela Kerins and Frank Flannery and awaits confirmation that both will attend our meeting on Thursday. However, our expectation is that Ms Kerins and Mr Flannery will attend the meeting, along with the Chief Financial Officer of the Rehab Group and members of the remuneration committee of the Group.”
