Transport Committee to consider school transport procurement process

6 May 2014, 16:43

The Chief Executive of Bus Éireann Martin Nolan appears before the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Transport and Communications tomorrow to discuss the procurement process for the awarding of contracts under the School Transport Scheme.

6 May 2014

The Scheme is operated by Bus Éireann on behalf of the Department of Education and Skills to provide transport for children who live remote from their nearest school.

Chairman of the Committee John O’Mahony TD says: “Tomorrow's meeting with Martin Nolan and senior officials at Bus Éireann will provide the Committee with an opportunity to consider the tendering process of Bus Éireann for school transport providers. The purpose of the meeting is not to examine specific allegations of discrepancies in the procurement process, which have been reported recently in a number of media outlets. Rather, it is to get an overview of the existing procurement procedures in Bus Éireann and to what extent these policies provide for an equitable and transparent tendering process.”

The meeting takes place tomorrow Wednesday 7 May at 2:30 pm in Committee Room 4, LH 2000. Public proceedings can be viewed online here.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
