Transport Committee refers correspondence regarding Bus Éireann to An Garda Síochána

7 May 2014, 17:36

The Clerk to the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Transport and Communications received various documents from Bus Éireann in recent weeks. These documents contain serious allegations against individuals both within Bus Éireann and bus operators who dealt with Bus Éireann.

The Committee has taken legal advice on these documents and, on foot of that, this afternoon took the decision for the Clerk to forward the documents to An Garda Siochána pursuant to its obligations under the Criminal Justice Act 2011 and other enactments.

The substance of the allegations contained in these documents fall outside the Committee’s remit and could potentially involve criminal wrong-doing and, in that regard, the Committee has agreed to refer the matter to the appropriate authority for such issues, which in this case is An Garda Siochána.
