Sub-Committee on Environment, Community and Local Government to consider Housing (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill 2014

3 Jun 2014, 14:28

Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government Phil Hogan TD will come before the sub Committee on Environment, Community and Local Government tomorrow, Wednesday, 4th June 2014 for the committee stage of the Housing (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill 2014.

Michael McCarthy TD, Chairman of the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Environment, Culture and the Gaeltacht, said: “Over the past number of months, our Committee has held hearings on current housing demand issues. Among the issues we addressed were general housing policy, as well as the delivery of housing and housing services, promoting good practice in housing management and supporting the delivery of quality housing in well-designed neighbourhoods.

“Those hearings should help inform committee stage consideration of the Housing (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill 2014 tomorrow. The Bill has three main elements – it will provide a legislative basis for the new Housing Assistance Payment; introduce a new tenant purchase scheme for local authority tenants; and reform the process for the termination of local authority tenancies.

“Tomorrow, the Bill will receive detailed consideration and members will have the opportunity to propose and discuss any amendments to the legislation as published.”

This meeting will start at 10.30am tomorrow, Wednesday, 4th June 2014 in Committee Room 1, Leinster House.

Committee proceedings can be followed live here.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
