Transport Committee to hear from Chairperson of Irish Aviation Authority

16 Jun 2014, 13:56

Chairperson designate of the Irish Aviation Authority Anne Nolan will tomorrow meet with the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Transport and Communications.

16 June 2014

Ms Nolan was appointed to the position of Chairman in 2010 and will outline her vision for the Authority, in the event of her successful reappointment to the role.

The Irish Aviation Authority is responsible for the management of Irish controlled airspace, the safety regulation of Irish civil aviation and the oversight of civil aviation security in Ireland

Chairman of the Committee John O’Mahony TD says: “Under the Programme for Government, those who are being proposed for appointment as chairpersons of State boards are required to make themselves available to the appropriate Oireachtas Committee. A commercial semi-State company which employs 700 people, the IAA receives its funding from charges to airlines using its services and regulatory clients in respect of its operational and regulatory activities. Tomorrow, we will have an opportunity to question Anne Nolan, who has been nominated by the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport Leo Varadkar TD to continue in the position as Chairman of this important body.”

The meeting takes place tomorrow Tuesday 17 June at 4:30 pm in Committee Room 1, LH 2000. Public proceedings can be viewed here.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
