Finance Committee to discuss forthcoming Ecofin meeting and CSRs with Minister for Finance

17 Jun 2014, 12:35

Members of the Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform will have a chance to question Minister for Finance Michael Noonan tomorrow, Wednesday, 18th June 2014 ahead of the forthcoming Economic and Financial Affairs Council (Ecofin) meeting.

The Committee will also consider the Country Specific Recommendations for Ireland, recently published by European Commission.

Committee Chairman Ciarán Lynch said: “Ecofin deals with economic policy coordination, economic surveillance, monitoring of Member States' budgetary policy and public finances, the euro, financial markets and capital movements, and economic relations with third countries. This is the first Ecofin meeting since the Country Specific Recommendations were published and our meeting tomorrow provides an opportunity to discuss in greater detail the European Commission’s Country Specific Recommendations for Ireland. The Commission’s recommendations to Ireland are in the areas of public finances; health care; labour market, education and training; social inclusion; access to finance; financial sector and legal services. Tomorrow’s meeting is an important opportunity for Oireachtas engagement in this process and we are looking forward to a stimulating and productive discussion with the Minister.”

This public session of this meeting will start at approximately 4.30pm tomorrow, Wednesday, 18th June 2014 in Committee Room 4, Leinster House.

Committee proceedings can be followed live here.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
