Justice Committee to discuss UN Security Resolution 1325

17 Jun 2014, 14:07

The Committee on Justice, Defence and Equality will discuss UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security when it meets with Liz McManus, Chair, Monitoring Group of Ireland's National Action Plan on the resolution.

Committee Chairman David Stanton TD said: “The UNSCR 1325 was adopted in 2000 and is an important watershed marking global recognition of the unique and disproportionate impact of conflict on women and girls. It calls on all member states to take specific actions to address this, including the development of National Action Plans to implement the resolution.

UN Security Council Resolution 1325 requires that women play a central role in conflict resolution and peacebuilding. Former Minister of State Liz McManus was appointed independent chair of the Monitoring Group to oversee progress on the implementation of the National Action Plan. Tomorrow, we will host a detailed discussion on the importance of the Resolution to Ireland.”

This meeting will start in Committee Room 2 at 11am on Wednesday, 18th June 2014.
