The Committee on Justice, Defence and Equality will meet with Conor Woods, Chairperson Designate, Charities Regulation Authority at its meeting tomorrow, Wednesday, 18th June 2014.
Committee Chairman David Stanton TD said: “Under the Programme for Government, those who are being proposed for appointment as chairpersons of State boards are required to make themselves available to the appropriate Oireachtas Committee.
“The new Charities Regulation Authority will operate as an independent regulator for the charity sector and will establish and maintain a new public register of all Irish charities. The Charities Regulatory Authority will be formally established on 16 October 2014 under the terms of the Charities Act of 2009. The Authority will have an important role in increasing transparency, public trust and confidence in the management and administration of charitable trusts and charitable organisations.
“Tomorrow will be our first opportunity to engage with Conor Woods, the Chairperson Designate of the Charities Regulation Authority, when he will have an opportunity to outline what he sees as the priorities and challenges for the Authority in the immediate period ahead and into the future. Committee members will have a chance to raise any issues they may have on the Authority.”
Following this meeting, the Committee will meet with representatives from the Irish Institute of Naturopathic Medicine to discuss suicide prevention in prisons.
This meeting will start in Committee Room 2 at 2pm on Wednesday, 18th June 2014.
