Education Committee consider proposals to reconfigure schools with Archdiocese of Dublin

24 Jun 2014, 16:18

Representatives from the Archdiocese of Dublin are before the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Education and Social Protection at 1 pm on Wednesday to consider future reconfiguration of schools for which the Archdiocese has responsibility.

24 June 2014

Ms Anne McDonagh, the Director of the Education Secretariat of the Archdiocese of Dublin, will address the Committee.

Committee Chair Joanna Tuffy says: “We look forward to hearing from Ms Anne McDonagh of the Archdiocese of Dublin on the possible reconfiguration of schools falling under its responsibility. Ms McDonagh is expected to outline the current approach of the Archdiocese in the ongoing, systematic reorganisation of the 466 primary schools. The meeting follows detailed engagement with representatives from the Edmund Rice Trust to consider similar proposals last week. Tomorrow’s meeting will afford our Committee the opportunity to explore the process being followed by the Archdiocese in the management of Catholic schools in Dublin, including the levels of consultation with the parents and local communities concerned.”

The meeting takes place tomorrow at 1pm Wednesday 25 June in Committee Room 3, LH 2000. The meeting can be viewed online here.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
