Justice Committee to discuss eConveyancing

25 Jun 2014, 09:27

The Justice Committee will focus on the benefits of eConveyancing today, Wednesday, 25th June 2014, while representatives from Amnesty International Ireland will also attend the committee meeting to discuss the constitutional protection of economic, social and cultural rights.

Committee Chairman David Stanton TD said: “The Committee is looking forward to meeting Frank Treacy, Interim Chief Executive of the Property Registration Authority; John O’Sullivan, Chief Executive designate of the body to be established following the Merger of the Property Registration Authority, Ordnance Survey Ireland & the Valuation Office; Ken Murphy, Director General, the Law Society; and Dennis Barnhart, Chief Strategy and Integration Officer from Teranet Inc to discuss the issue of eConveyancing. EConveyancing is the paperless electronic transfer of title of land from one person to another and could reduce the total transaction time for buying a house to a matter of days.”

Following this meeting, the Committee will discuss the constitutional protection of economic, social and cultural rights when it meets with representatives from Amnesty International Ireland.

Deputy Stanton said: “In February, the Convention on the Constitution has voted to afford greater constitutional protection to economic, social and cultural (ESC) rights. Today we will have an opportunity to consider the issue in more detail with Amnesty International Ireland.”

This meeting will start in Committee Room 2 at 2pm on Wednesday, 25th June 2014.
