Jobs Committee to resume hearings on job creation and business growth in town centres

29 Sep 2014, 12:21

Policy options to support business growth and job creation and retention in town and village centres will be on the agenda of the Joint Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation tomorrow, Tuesday, 30th September 2014.

The schedule for the meeting is

Session A: 1.45 p.m.
Vintners Federation of Ireland; and

Session B: 2.30 p.m.
Hardware Association Ireland

Committee Chair Marcella Corcoran Kennedy said: “Tomorrow, we will resume our hearings on policy options to support business growth and job creation and their retention in town and village centres when we will hear from representatives from the Vintners Federation of Ireland and Hardware Association Ireland. Given that both organisations represent retail and commercial businesses in towns and villages across Ireland, it is important that we get both organisations’ perspective on the policy options and various measures they would like to see implemented to attract shoppers, boost trade and breathe new life into town centres which in turn will lead to business growth and job creation. Our committee is intent on helping to find workable measures to help rejuvenate and sustain town and village centres and create jobs.”

Before it meets with the Vintners Federation of Ireland and the Hardware Association Ireland, the Committee will carry out scrutiny of EU legislative proposals:

Schedule A: COM(2014)344 Proposal for a Directive of the European Parliament and of the Council on the dissemination of Earth observation satellite data for commercial purposes; and

Schedule B: COM(2014)319; COM(2014)341; COM(2014)345; COM(2014)377; COM(2014)391; COM(2014)448; COM(2014)452; COM(2014)495; COM(2014)496; COM(2014)534; COM(2014)539; COM(2014)542; and COM(2014)543

This meeting will take place at 1.30pm on Tuesday, 30th September 2014 in Committee Room 2.
