Environment Committee to discuss Poolbeg incinerator with Owen Keegan

17 Nov 2014, 16:14

Dublin City Council chief executive Owen Keegan will appear before the Committee on the Environment, Culture and the Gaeltacht tomorrow, Tuesday, 18th November 2014 to discuss the Poolbeg incinerator.

Michael McCarthy TD, Chairman of the Committee, said: “Last month, Dublin City Council signed a contract with US-based Covanta, one of the world’s largest owners and operators of infrastructure for the conversion of waste-to-energy, to start work on the €600 million Poolbeg waste incinerator in Dublin. Work has begun on the facility which will have the capacity to burn 600,000 tonnes of waste a year and which is expected to start operations in late 2017. Numerous issues and concerns have been raised about the Poolbeg project since it was first proposed and tomorrow committee members will have an opportunity to consider these matters with Dublin City Council chief executive Owen Keegan.”

This meeting will start in Committee Room 4, Leinster House at 2.15pm tomorrow, Tuesday, 18th November 2014.

Committee proceedings can be followed live here.
