Good Friday Committee Chairman welcomes Stormont talks breakthrough

23 Dec 2014, 16:26

The Chairman of the Joint Committee on the Implementation of the Good Friday Agreement Frank Feighan TD has this afternoon welcomed news from Stormont that a ‘broad’ agreement has been reached between the five main parties in Northern Ireland and both Irish and British Governments.

23 December 2014

Deputy Feighan TD says: “On behalf of Committee Members, may I welcome the broad consensus that has emerged following wide-ranging and challenging talks over the past 11 weeks. The real and genuine progress on contentious issues including flags, parades and the past will herald a brighter future for the people of Northern Ireland. This positive news creates genuine momentum towards realising the ideal of a shared society. The courage and leadership displayed by all five political parties, as well as by the Irish and British Governments, is to be strongly commended.”
