Justice Committee to meet Garda Inspectorate on Crime Investigation Report

13 Jan 2015, 12:10

The three-member Garda Inspectorate will appear before Oireachtas Joint Committee on Justice, Defence and Equality tomorrow Wednesday 14 January to consider the findings of their recently published Report on Crime Investigation 2014.

13 January 2015

Chief Inspector Robert K Olson and Deputy Chief Inspectors Mark Toland and Debra Kirby will present to the Committee.

The 500-page report, presented to the Minister in November, is the result of a detailed two-year examination by the Inspectorate of crime investigation in the Garda Síochána.

Committee Chairman David Stanton TD said: “This comprehensive report by the Garda Inspectorate is as a result of detailed examination of the policies, practices and procedures used by the Garda Síochána in the prevention and investigation of crime. As it contains over 200 recommendations, it is a significant body of work that has the potential to modernise policing in this State. Tomorrow’s meeting is a valuable opportunity to hear from representatives of the Garda Inspectorate on this landmark report on the current systems and practices and what policy responses required to transform An Garda Síochána into a leading European police force.”

This meeting will start at 2:30 pm on Wednesday 14 January in Committee Room 2. Committee proceedings can be followed live here.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
