28 Jan 2015, 12:35

The Joint Committee on European Union Affairs will engage on the European Commission’s work programme for 2015 tomorrow, Thursday, January 29th.

28 January 2015

Announced in December 2014, this is the first work programme of the newly elected Commission and it sets out its priorities for the year ahead.  The Commission believes the work programme is an ‘agenda for change’ and it focuses on headline topics such as jobs, growth and investment.

Appearing before the Committee are:

•    Ms. Barbara Nolan, Head of the European Commission Representation in Ireland.
•    Mr. Jonathan Claridge, Head of the Political Section.

•    Ms. Lynn Boylan, MEP.
•    Ms. Mairead McGuinness, MEP.
•    Mr. Matt Carthy, MEP.

Committee Chair, Dominic Hannigan, TD, said: “Tomorrow’s meeting represents an important opportunity for the Committee to discuss the Commission’s plans for the coming year. Jobs, growth and investment are the Commission’s top priorities for 2015, though the wider programme will also be subject to scrutiny. The Committee is keen to assess the Commission’s plans on ensuring the delivery of real benefits on the ground for citizens in terms of economic growth and job creation. The Committee in particular looks forward to engaging with Irish MEPs on the work programme, focusing on it from an Irish perspective.”

The meeting will commence in private session at 2.30pm in Committee Room 2, Leinster House, tomorrow, Thursday, 29th of January 2015. It is anticipated that the meeting will go into public session at 3pm.
