Jobs Committee to hear from Young Scientist winner on the issues facing women in the field

The Joint Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation will meet tomorrow, Tuesday, February 10th, to continue their discussion of female entrepreneurship; the issues facing women in business and tech and the need for balanced regional development of entrepreneurial hubs.

In the first session, the Committee will hear from representatives from ISME; Start-Up Ireland and IDA Ireland. In the second session, the Committee will hear presentations from Niamh Bushnell, the Dublin Commissioner for Startups, and young scientist, Anna Porter.

Committee Chair, Marcella Corcoran-Kennedy, TD, said: “The Committee looks forward to continuing the discussion on the myriad issues facing female entrepreneurs, as well as the wider issue of balanced regional development of entrepreneurial hubs. Also of great significance is the fact that we will get to hear from Anna Porter, a 15 year old Transition Year Student from Newpark Comprehensive School who exhibited in the BTYSE 2015 and received a highly commended award in the Social and Behavioural Category for her project titled \"Why Do Women Stay in STEM Careers?\"

Also up for discussion tomorrow are two EU legislative proposals relating to the tariff treatment for goods originating from Ecuador (COM(2014)585) and the suspension of customs duties applicable to imports of certain heavy oils and other similar products (COM(2015)38).

The meeting will start in Committee Room 2, Leinster House, tomorrow, Tuesday, 10th of February 2015 at 1.30pm. Committee proceedings can be viewed live here.
