24 Mar 2015, 16:12

The Oireachtas Joint Committee on Public Service Oversight and Petitions will tomorrow discuss a range of public petitions received from individual citizens and organisations in relation to concerns around public service delivery.

24 March 2015

The petitions scheduled for consideration tomorrow include:

  •     Recruitment Policy within RTE (Mr. Kevin Sharkey)
  •     The need for a sworn inquiry into the appointment of senior planning inspectors to the Board of An Bord Pléanala (Mr Jim Connolly)
  •     Safeguards in reporting concerns in relation to HSE service delivery (Ms Bridie Cox and 34 Supporting Petitioners)
  •     Perceived inadequacies at systems to deal with bullying and discrimination in the Institutes of Technologies (Mr Siavash Sefidvash and Deputy Richard Boyd Barrett TD – supporting petitioner)
  •     Disease rates linked to deficiencies in central heating systems (Mr. Tony Rochford)

Chairman of the Committee Pádraig Mac Lochlainn TD says: “The Oireachtas petitions system is a direct channel for individual citizens and groups across Ireland to influence the parliamentary agenda. Since the launch of the petitions system in September 2012, the Committee has received a total of 134 petitions from citizens in every corner of the country. Creating a petition is simple and the process has been designed to be open, user-friendly and accessible to all. There is a standard form which we request all petitioners to complete, which is available at petitions.oireachtas.ie and can be completed and submitted online, emailed or sent by post.”

The meeting takes place tomorrow Wednesday 25 March in Committee Room 4, LH 2000 at 4 pm. Public proceedings are anticipated to commence at 4:30 pm and can be viewed online here.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
