Select Sub-Committee on Social Protection to take Committee Stage of Social Welfare Bill

24 Mar 2015, 15:23

The Select sub Committee on Social Protection will meet with the Minister of State at the Department of Social Protection with Special Responsibility for Activation, Kevin Humphreys TD, tomorrow, 25th March 2015, to take Committee Stage of the Social Welfare (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill 2015.

24th March 2015

Chair of the Select sub Committee, Joanna Tuffy, TD said: “We are pleased to take Committee Stage of this important Bill, which aims to provide the legislative basis for the introduction of the Back to Work Family Dividend. This measure would help jobseekers with families, as well as lone parents, to return to work.  We, as a Committee, are looking forward to engaging with the Minister of State on this Bill.”

The Bill also provides for a number of changes to Social Welfare legislation, including changes in relation to Jobseeker’s Allowance; the authentication of the identity of a person presenting for a social welfare payment; the use of PPS numbers by the Pyrite Resolution Board, and the recovery of social welfare payments in cases of personal injury compensation.

The meeting will start in Committee Room 3, LH 2000, at 1pm tomorrow, Wednesday 25th March 2015.

Committee proceedings can be followed live here.
