Education Committee to discuss developments in Irish language education

The Oireachtas Committee on Education and Social Protection Committee will meet tomorrow, Wednesday, 1st April, to discuss developments in Irish language education. The meeting will commence at 10am in Committee Room 4.

Appearing before the Committee will be Officials from the Department of Education and Skills, as well as representatives from Comhairle um Oideachas Gaeltachta agus Gaelscolaíochta; Gaelscoileanna; Tuismitheoirí na Gaeltachta.

Vice-Chair of the Committee, Jim Daly, said: “The Joint Committee on Education and Social Protection believes that Irish should be nurtured and encouraged in our education system and as such, we commend the work that is being done by teachers, students, parents and all those who encourage use of our native language.”

“The Committee has an important role to play in supporting the use of Irish in our education system and tomorrow’s meeting provides us with a timely opportunity to receive an update on the developments in Irish language education as well as to explore how we might help to enhance progress in the area.”

The meeting will start in Committee Room 4, Leinster House, tomorrow; Wednesday, 1st April 2015 at 10am.
