15 Apr 2015, 15:07

Professor Jennifer Todd, from UCD’s School of Politics and International Relations, will address the Joint Committee on European Union Affairs tomorrow, Thursday 16th April 2015, in the final session in its series of meetings on ‘BrExit.’

15th April 2015

Professor Todd will make a presentation to the Committee based on the regional and geopolitical issues that could arise in the event that the UK was to opt to leave the European Union.

Jennifer Todd is Professor, Member of the Royal Irish Academy, Director of the Institute for British Irish Studies at UCD, UN Global Expert, and member of the advisory board of a number of projects, including the Northern Ireland Peace Monitoring Project. She is a specialist on North-South relations and her work deals with state change and identity shift, the interrelation of socio-economic and political processes and processes of cultural change.

Committee Chair, Dominic Hannigan, TD, said: “We welcome the opportunity to hear from Professor Jennifer Todd on the complex geopolitical issues that might result were the UK to opt to leave the EU.”

“At tomorrow’s meeting, the Committee will address the implications for Ireland and for North-South relations were the UK - one of the largest European states – to vote to leave the EU. Professor Todd will address the Committee on this defining geopolitical debate, which we believe is an appropriate topic on which to conclude our series of meetings on ‘BrExit.’”

Tomorrow’s meeting will commence at 2pm in Committee Room 2, Leinster House, tomorrow, Thursday, 16th April 2015.
