Jobs Committee to discuss employment & growth opportunities in the creative arts industry

Representative groups from the creative arts industry will appear before the Joint Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation tomorrow Tuesday, 21st April at 1.30pm in CR 2.

The meeting will comprise two sessions, allowing stakeholders from the creative arts industry to discuss with the Committee the current state of the sector, with particular focus on the challenges and opportunities for growth and employment.


The schedule for the meeting is as follows:

Session 1: [1.45 pm]
Representatives of NUI Galway, Teagasc, Western Development Commission and;

Session 2: [3.00 pm]
Representatives of Design and Crafts Council of Ireland, TG4

Committee Chair, Marcella Corcoran-Kennedy, TD, said: “The creative arts industry is a broad sector, encompassing opportunities in a wide range of creative and cultural sectors. At tomorrow’s meeting, the Joint Committee will engage with various stakeholder groups to discuss the measures needed to increase the potential for job creation, innovation and balanced economic development in the creative economy.

“The Joint Committee believes that this expanding industry must not be neglected in our national economic recovery. It can provide exciting opportunities for employment at both a regional and national level, if it is sufficiently nurtured. Tomorrow's meeting promises to be an extremely useful one and we look forward to engaging with our invited speakers.”

Also on the agenda tomorrow will be scrutiny of EU Proposals COM (2015)20; COM(2015)21; COM(2015)30; COM(2015)33; COM(2015)48; COM(2015)49.
