Transport Committee to resume pre-legislative scrutiny of Road Traffic Bill

The Joint Committee on Transport and Communication will resume its pre-legislative Scrutiny of the Road Traffic Bill 2015 tomorrow, Wednesday, 22nd April at 9.30am in Committee Room 4.

Appearing before the Committee will be:
•    Mr Conor Faughnan, AA Ireland, and;
•    Ms Moya Murdock, CEO of the Road Safety Authority.


Committee Chair, John O’Mahony, TD, said: “The Road Traffic Bill 2015 is intended to improve safety on Irish roads and reduce accidents and fatalities. The bill includes increased measures to deal with hit and runs as well as roadside checkpoints for alcohol and drug testing. The use of mobile phones and other electronic devices will also be further legislated for in this bill.”

“As part of the drafting process, Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Paschal Donohoe, has asked our Committee to undertake pre-legislative scrutiny on the draft legislation. We very much welcome the engagement of the AA and the RSA with us tomorrow. Our Committee looks forward to carrying out further, detailed consideration and pre-legislative scrutiny of this very significant draft bill.”

The meeting will start in Committee Room 4, Leinster House, tomorrow, Wednesday, 22nd April at 9.30am.
