Communications Committee to meet anti-pylon group over North-South Interconnector

27 Apr 2015, 14:05

The Joint Committee on Transport and Communications will continue its discussions on the proposed North-South Interconnector tomorrow, Tuesday 28th April 2015.

27th April 2015

Representatives from the Monaghan Anti-Pylon Committee will be in attendance for the meeting, which takes place at 11.30am in Committee Room 4.

Committee Chair, John O’Mahony, TD, said: “This week’s meeting with the Monaghan Anti-Pylon Committee allows the Joint Committee to continue its scrutiny of the North-South Interconnector, and to discuss how to ensure that any development is conducted in the best way possible. The aim of this meeting is to continue its facilitation of an open discussion about the issues surrounding the proposal, as well as to examine the impact of the Interconnector on those living in and around its path.”

“Last week’s meeting with EirGrid gave the Committee an opportunity to hear from the company on its plans for the Interconnector; this week we will hear from some of those opposed to the installation of new pylons and electricity lines. Of significant importance is the fact that there are issues of concern to many ordinary people living near the proposed Interconnector. The Joint Committee believes it is crucial that these groups are given a voice during our discussions and as such, we look forward to hear from the Monaghan Anti-Pylon Committee at our meeting tomorrow.”

The meeting will start in Committee Room 4, Leinster House, tomorrow, Tuesday, 28th April at 11.30am.

Committee proceedings can be viewed live here.

The meeting will also be broadcast live on Oireachtas TV on Sky Channel 574; UPC Channel 207 and eVision Channel 504.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
