27 Apr 2015, 12:01

The Joint Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation will continue its engagement with the creative arts industry when it meets tomorrow, Tuesday, 28th April at 1.30pm in CR 2.

27th April 2015

Over the course of two separate sessions, the Committee will continue its examination and discussion of the potential for job creation, innovation and balanced economic development in the creative economy.

Tomorrow’s meeting will see 12 of Ireland’s most important creative organisations and institutions engage with the Committee on issues surrounding employment and growth opportunities.

The schedule for the meeting is as follows:

Session 1: [1.45 pm]
Representatives of Dogpatch Labs; Ballyfermot College; Arts Council of Ireland; Harnessing Creativity Project; Dublin Business Innovation Centre; Animation Ireland.

Session 2: [3.00 pm]
Representatives of RTÉ; Hot Press; Trinity College Dublin, Ashford Studios; Irish Film Board.

Committee Chair, Marcella Corcoran-Kennedy, TD, said: “Ireland is home to a large number of highly talented creative arts professionals and specialists, many of whom have been negatively affected by the economic downturn. As the country continues on the path to recovery, the Joint Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation wants to ensure that the creative arts industry is sufficiently supported in its work.”

“Ireland has a long and historical connection to the arts and we must ensure that policies are in place to meet the creative economy’s needs and to provide opportunities. Artists, musicians, writers, performers, tech specialists and creative arts students are just some of those who will be represented at tomorrow’s meeting. Ireland also has a small, but thriving animation base, and tomorrow’s meeting will allow our Members to gain an insight into this growing industry.”

The meeting will start in Committee Room 2, Leinster House, tomorrow, Tuesday, 28th April 2015 at 1.30pm. Committee proceedings can be viewed live here.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
