Education Committee to discuss use of ICT in primary schools

The Joint Committee on Education and Social Protection will meet tomorrow, Wednesday, 6th May, to discuss the use of ICT in Irish primary schools.

Appearing before the Committee will be Officials from the Department of Education and Skills; the Irish National Teachers Organisation (INTO)and the Irish Primary Principals Network (IPPN).

erson of the Committee, Joanna Tuffy, TD, says: “Appropriate use of ICT in the implementation of the primary school curriculum can be a dynamic tool for enhancing both the teaching and learning experience. ICT skills are an integral part of everyday life and as such, the Committee recognises the importance of technological competency for children.”

“At tomorrow’s meeting, we will discuss the opportunities and challenges facing the education sector as it continues to integrate technological literacy into children’s learning experience. The Committee is interested to hear how ICT can be used to support and enhance traditional learning methods. We are also aware of the challenges facing the implementation of this technology, challenges which include costs and online security issues.”

The meeting will start in Committee Room 3, Leinster House, tomorrow; Wednesday, 6th May 2015 at 1pm.
