The Joint Committee on European Union Affairs will hold a special meeting tomorrow on ‘Changing attitudes towards the European Union.’

6th May 2015

The meeting forms part of a series of Europe-themed events being held in Leinster House when it marks Europe Day this Thursday, 7th May.

Appearing before the Committee will be:
•    Ms. Liz Wall, National President, Irish Countrywomen’s Association;
•    Ms. Maureen Kavanagh, Chief Executive, Active Retirement Ireland;
•    Representatives from Youth Work Ireland and;
•    Ms. Noelle O’Connell, European Movement Ireland

Committee Chair, Dominic Hannigan, TD, said: “As Chairman of the Joint Committee on European Union Affairs, I am delighted that our Committee will host a special meeting tomorrow on the subject of changing attitudes towards the European Union. People are more engaged than ever with the role played by the EU both in Ireland and globally. At tomorrow’s meeting, we will seek to establish to what extent the EU is assisting in building a fair and stable world.”

“Economics, immigration and climate change are just some of the many issues impacting on people’s changing attitudes towards the EU. Tomorrow’s meeting will allow us to engage with groups representative of a cross-section of Irish society. This is a valuable opportunity to engage on those issues that matter to Irish society. The main aim of tomorrow’s meeting is to yield valuable insight on changing attitudes towards the EU and to discuss how best to engage citizens with the work of the European Union.”

Tomorrow’s meeting will commence at 2pm in Committee Room 2, Leinster House, tomorrow, Thursday, 7th May 2015.
