Agriculture Committee welcome new regulations for the grocery goods sector

2 Feb 2016, 16:35

The Oireachtas Joint Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine today welcomed the signing into law of new regulations aimed at regulating certain practices in the grocery goods sector by the Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Richard Bruton TD.

02nd February 2016

Committee Chairman, Andrew Doyle TD, said: “Among these long-overdue regulations is the key provision that grocery goods contracts must now be in writing. This common-sense regulation provides greater certainty to suppliers and allows them to forecast and plan accordingly. When our Committee released our “Report on Grocery Goods Sector: Increasing equity and transparency in producer-processor-retailer relationships” back in 2013, this was a key recommendation and we are glad to see it now being signed into law by Minister Bruton.”

“Our report provides a review of the supplier-retailer relationships in the food supply chain together with an overview of the most important and critical issues facing the sustainability of the Irish food sector and these regulations now give effect to increasing stability and security in this area.”
