The Joint Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach will tomorrow meet with the Minister of State for Financial Services, eGovernment and Public Procurement, Eoghan Murphy TD, to discuss the rising cost of motor insurance.

The meeting will commence in public session at 2.00pm in Committee Room 2, Wednesday, 7 September 2016.

Committee Chairman, John McGuinness TD, said “We welcome this opportunity to engage with Minister Murphy on what is a very important issue. In particular, we look forward to discussing with the Minister the progress that has been made by the task force, set-up between the Department of Finance and the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport, to undertake a review of various aspects of policy in the insurance sector.”

“Many factors have been identified as contributing to this rising cost of motor insurance, including the increased level of claims and value of compensation awards. This is something that needs to be urgently addressed in the interest of the wider Irish economy.”
