At the symposium on European Union Affairs in the Mansion House today, the Chair of the Education and Skills Committee, Fiona O’Loughlin TD, raised important educational issues with the invited panel, which may be affected by BREXIT.

Deputy O’Loughlin TD, said “This symposium, which focused mainly on economic implications, also allowed me to address educational issues such as the challenges facing the education system in successfully integrating migrants to this country and how to protect and improve the future of higher education in Ireland in comparison with our European neighbours.\"

\"I also noted the strategic importance of further education, apprenticeships and training and issues that arise in qualification and skills recognition, as the UK leaves the EU.”

“As Chairperson of the Committee on Education and Skills, I highlighted the importance of some of the key issues that face the Irish education system where EU involvement plays a vital role in their successful delivery. BREXIT offers many issues and challenges, not least for the education sector, and it is important that we help frame the debate from the earliest stage.”

For further information on the symposium, which looked at economic implications of UK withdrawal from the European Union, please see here.
