Justice & Equality Committee to engage with Garda Síochána Inspectorate

The priorities of the Garda Síochána Inspectorate will be on the agenda of the Joint Committee on Justice and Equality tomorrow, Wednesday, 19 October 2016.

Committee Chairman Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin said: “As part of the Committee’s ongoing review of the oversight and accountability of An Garda Síochána, we will meet with Deputy Chief Inspector Mark Toland and Acting Deputy Chief Inspector Eimear Fisher of the Garda Síochána Inspectorate tomorrow. The Garda Síochána Inspectorate is an independent statutory body established under Part 5 of the Garda Síochána Act 2005. Its objective is to ensure that the resources available to the Garda Síochána are used to maintain and achieve the highest levels of effectiveness and efficiency in its operation and administration as measured against best international practice. Tomorrow the Committee will have an opportunity to hear and discuss the priorities for the Inspectorate for the coming period.”

The meeting will take place at 9am in Committee Room 2, Leinster House, tomorrow, Wednesday, 19 October 2016. Committee proceedings can be followed here.
