Agriculture Committee to hear from EU Commissioner Phil Hogan

19 Oct 2016, 15:04

The Joint Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine will meet tomorrow, Thursday 20th October 2016 at 11am in Committee Room 1, Leinster House.

19th October 2016

Mr. Phil Hogan, EU Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, will brief the Committee on developments in the Agricultural sector.

Committee Chair, Pat Deering TD, said: “Tomorrow’s meeting with Commissioner Hogan will be a wide-ranging one, which will allow for discussion on a range of important issues. Brexit will form a large part of the discussion, as will price volatility in markets/emerging market supports.”

“Committee Members will also be keen to discuss the Simplification of CAP, and the issue of a crisis fund for the cereal, grain and tillage sectors. Another matter of concern is the ongoing issue of trying to ensure that farmers receive a fair price from supermarkets for what they produce. Our Committee is keen to ensure that farmers get a fair share of the consumer price for their produce and as such, we will seek an update on this matter from Commissioner Hogan.”

Committee proceedings can be viewed live here.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
