The Joint Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine will meet tomorrow, Tuesday, 8th November 2016 at 5pm in Committee Room 1, Leinster House.

7th November 2016

The schedule for the meeting is as follows:

(i) Scrutiny of EU legislative proposals:
COM(2016)273; COM(2016)441; COM(2016)663; and

(ii) Issues concerning the Fishing Industry [Representatives from the Marine Institute, Bord Iascaigh Mhara and the Sea Fisheries Protection Authority]

Committee Chair, Pat Deering TD, said: “Ireland’s seafood industry provides an important source of economic activity on our island. It provides jobs in multiple areas and is a vital part of the Irish export market. The Joint Committee believes strongly that government policy should promote employment in the fishing industry as well as protecting the marine environment.”

“Our witnesses tomorrow are the main fisheries agencies in the State and they will brief us on the issues facing the industry. Members are aware of the problems caused by European Union quotas and conservation measures and will be interested to hear our witnesses’ views on how we can protect the Irish industry.”

Committee proceedings can be viewed live here.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
