9 November 2016

The Joint Committee on Education and Skills will tomorrow meet to consider the findings of the report ‘Investing in National Ambition: a Strategy for Funding Higher Education. The Report of the Expert Group on Future Funding for Higher Education’. The meeting will be held across two sessions:

Session A:  University Presidents; Prof. Caroline Fennell, Senior Vice-President, Academic and Registrar, University College Cork (UCC) and Mr. Ned Costello Chief Executive, Irish University Association (IUA)
Session B:  Institute of Technology Presidents and Prof. Tom Collins Interim CEO, Technological Higher Education Association (THEA)

The meeting will commence at 9.00am in Committee Room 3 tomorrow, Thursday, 10 November 2016.

Committee Chairperson, Fiona O’Loughlin TD, said “This report from the expert group, chaired by Mr. Peter Cassells, is of fundamental importance to the future funding of higher education in the State. Arising from this report we know that to maintain the status quo, in terms of how we fund our higher education sector, is not an option. As a Committee, we will now examine the findings of the report with the University Presidents, Institute of Technology Presidents and other key stakeholders at future meetings to hear their expert opinion on how education provision should be funded into the future.”
