The Joint Committee on Education and Skills will tomorrow meet with Mr. Peter Cassells, Chair of the Expert Group on Future Funding for Higher Education to resume their hearings on the findings of the report “Investing in National Ambition: a Strategy for Funding Higher Education”. Mr. Cassells will be joined by Dr. Aedín Doris of NUI Maynooth.
The Committee will also hear from Prof. Michael Gilchrist, University College Dublin; Prof. John Boland, Trinity College Dublin; Prof. Patrick Lonergan, NUI Galway; Dr. Caroline McMullan, DCU Business School; Prof. Aislinn O'Donnell, NUI Maynooth; Dr. Michele O'Dwyer, University of Limerick and Dr. Niamh Hourigan, University College Cork on their expert observations and insights into the findings of the report
The meeting will commence at 9.00am in Committee Room 4 tomorrow, Thursday, 24 November 2016.
Committee Chairperson, Fiona O’Loughlin TD, said “We have previously met with the Presidents of Irish Universities and IT’s in our considerations of this reports findings. During these meetings, we discussed the important need to plan for a solution to long-term funding issues which may occur. We now have the opportunity to meet with the Chairman of the Expert group, Mr. Peter Cassells, and also a group of leading academics to hear their informed analysis of how best we should proceed. This report provides options, it provides a roadmap and it provides an opportunity to engage in a debate about how we want the fund higher education provision in Ireland.”
