The Committee on Budgetary Oversight will tomorrow meet with representatives from Social Justice Ireland (SJI) and the National Women’s Council (NWC) to continue their post-budget analysis.

The meeting will commence at 1.30pm in Committee Room 2 tomorrow, Wednesday, 30 November 2016.

Committee Chairman, John Paul Phelan TD, said “At our last Committee meeting we looked at issues of poverty in Ireland and how Budget 2017 addressed these. We now turn our attention to the equality and gender impact in our meeting with Social Justice Ireland and the National Women’s Council, in planning for Budget 2018.”

“Social Justice Ireland is an independent body that advocate for a sustainable and equitable future for every member of society. They bring an expert opinion to the Committee on the impact of the measures in Budget 2017 and we welcome their views on items such as the reduction in the Universal Social Charge (USC) and income tax in particular.”

“The gender impact of the budget is also of particular importance to the Committee and so we look forward to this engagement with the National Women’s Council. The Committee welcome the opportunity to hear from the NWC on a range of provisions in Budget 2017 and the childcare package in particular.”

“In planning for Budget 2018 it is important that we analyse the provisions of Budget 2017 and this series of meetings on the post-budget analysis will be of particular benefit to the work of the Committee as we move forward.”

Committee proceedings can be viewed live here.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
