29 November 2016

The Joint Committee on Children and Youth Affairs will tomorrow meet to consider two matters under their remit. To begin the Committee will meet with representatives from the Migrant Rights Centre Ireland to consider the issue of undocumented children in Ireland. The Committee will then meet with representatives of One Family to discuss child contact services and ancillary family support services for private family law courts.

The meeting will commence at 9.00am in Committee Room 1 tomorrow, Wednesday, 30 November 2016.

Committee Chairman Jim Daly TD, said “The Migrant Rights Centre Ireland has done important work in the area of undocumented migrants, including children, since it was founded in 2001 – not least the Undocumented Workers Scheme. Regularisation of this undocumented status is particularly important for children as it will allow them to fully participate in Irish society and achieve the correct levels of State protection that children require.”

“One Family are a body set up to campaign for a positive and equal future for all members of one-parent families in Ireland. Tomorrow, the Committee will hear about child contact services and additional family support services for private family law courts. Family Law can be a complex area but one of great importance given what is at stake for families and children alike.”

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
