Budgetary Oversight Committee to engage with EU Commission Director

The Committee on Budgetary Oversight will today meet with Mr. Carlos Martínez-Mongay of the EU Commission. Mr. Martínez-Mongay is Director of 'Economies of the Member States II' in the Directorate-General for Economic and Financial Affairs.

The meeting will commence at 5.00pm in Committee Room 3 today, Tuesday, 6 December 2016.

Committee Chairman, John Paul Phelan TD, said “Today's meeting allows us, as a Committee, to look at budgetary planning in a European context. During our engagement with Mr. Martínez-Mongay we will discuss a range of matters including Irelands Draft Budgetary Plan for 2017 and the corresponding Commission opinion.”

“During the course of this meeting today we will also look to discuss issues such as the Annual Growth Survey and the risk and effect of fiscal rules such as the Stability and Growth Pact. As Director of 'Economies of the Member States II' we can also hear the expert opinion of Mr. Martínez-Mongay on issues around compliance with these fiscal rules and what, if any, scope for change exists.”
