6 Dec 2016, 13:37

The Committee on Regional Development, Rural Affairs, Arts and the Gaeltacht will meet with tomorrow, Wednesday, 7 December 2016 as it continues its hearings on sustaining viable rural communities.

The Schedule for tomorrow’s meeting is:

Session A: 9 a.m. Representatives of Age Action Ireland; Mental Health Ireland and Saint Vincent De Paul
Session B: 11 a.m. Representatives of Irish National Teachers' Organisation (INTO);  Association of Secondary Teachers of Ireland (ASTI); National Parents Council Primary and the National Parents Council Post Primary

Cathaoirleach of the Committee Peadar Tóibín said: “A community is the sum of all of its parts. While the creation of jobs and enterprise are vital to the survival of rural communities, it is important that we take a holistic approach to developing, sustaining and growing rural communities. A community is made up from all of its elements and all of its people from the very young to the elderly. Therefore, it is important that we hear from those involved in providing education, looking after the elderly and providing social services in our communities to get their perspectives on the measures necessary to sustain and grow our rural communities.”

This meeting will start at 9am, tomorrow, Wednesday, 7 December 2016 in Committee Room 1, Leinster House. Committee proceedings can be viewed live here.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
