Communications Committee to discuss proposed acquisition of Celtic Media by INM

The proposed acquisition of CMNL Limited, formerly Celtic Media Newspapers Limited, by Independent News & Media will be the focus of the Joint Committee on Communications, Climate Action and Environment when it meets with representatives from Independent News and Media; the Celtic Media Group; the National Union of Journalists; and a number of academics tomorrow.

Committee Chair Hildegarde Naughton TD said: “The proposed acquisition of the Celtic Media Group of local newspapers by Independent News and Media (INM) plc has been referred for a full media merger review to the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland by Communications Minister Denis Naughten. As part of this process, our Committee has been asked to make a submission on the proposed acquisition. To be more fully informed, the Committee has scheduled a meeting with the various stakeholders involved before we make a submission.”

This meeting will take place at 12 noon on Tuesday, 7 February 2017 in Committee Room 2, Leinster House. Committee proceedings can be viewed live here.
