Budgetary Oversight Committee to meet with Ibec representatives on economic developments in a budgetary context

7 Feb 2017, 15:35

The Committee on Budgetary Oversight will tomorrow meet with representatives from Ibec to consider a range of budgetary issues, as the Committee continue their discussions on the preparation of Budget 2018. Under consideration will be the National macroeconomic outlook, labour market developments, public capital investment and other budgetary priorities.

The meeting will commence at 2.00pm in Committee Room 2 tomorrow, Wednesday, 8 February 2017.

Committee Chairman, John Paul Phelan TD, said “As the body which represents Irish business both domestically and internationally we welcome the expert opinion of Ibec as the Committee continue their deliberations on the measures to be put forward for Budget 2018. It is true that Irish business is seeing increased opportunity as the economy grows but issues such as Brexit and resulting market fluctuation are very real concerns for business owners.”

“We welcome the opportunity to discuss areas such as the macroeconomic outlook and how Irish business may be affected, labour market developments, the opportunities for public capital investment and what Ibec see as the most pressing budgetary priorities. These meetings are of significant importance to the Committee’s work as we carry out our function in laying the ground work for Budget 2018.”
