Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural & Gaeltacht Affairs Committee to focus on issues facing emigrants returning to rural Ireland

14 Feb 2017, 10:02

The Committee on Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural& Gaeltacht Affairs will focus on the issues facing emigrants returning to rural Ireland tomorrow, Wednesday, 15 February 2017.

Cathaoirleach of the Committee Peadar Tóibín said: “Moving back to Ireland can be difficult for returning emigrants as they seek to re-integrate into life in this country, look for work, access services and look for affordable accommodation. For those returning to rural Ireland, the problems can be compounded by the ongoing challenges faced by many rural communities in terms of poor infrastructure, a lack of services, shortage of enterprise and a lack of jobs. Tomorrow we will discuss the issues and challenges facing emigrants returning to rural Ireland in greater detail with representatives from the Irish Lobby for Immigration Reform.”

This meeting will start at 9.30am, tomorrow, Wednesday, 15 February in Committee Room 4, Leinster House. Committee proceedings can be viewed live here.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
