The Joint Committee on Children and Youth Affairs will tomorrow conduct a two-part meeting on matters under their remit. In Session A the Committee will meet with representatives from the ISPCC to discuss cybersecurity for children and young adults.

The Committee will then hear from Tusla representatives, including CEO Mr. Fred McBride, on governance and control procedures within Tusla.

Session A will commence at 9.00am in Committee Room 1 tomorrow, Wednesday, 22 February 2017 with Session B to follow at 10.30am.

Committee Chairman Jim Daly TD, said \"Tomorrow we will meet with Mr. Fred McBride, Chief Executive Officer of the Child and Family Agency Tusla, and his colleagues to look at their governance and control procedures. Recent high profile events have brought into sharp focus the absolute necessity for the highest standards of governance and control to be adhered to within such an important agency. While the specifics of these recent high profile events will be explored by way of Tribunal of Inquiry we, as a Committee, have a responsibility to examine how best-practice can, and should, be applied in an agency under our remit.\"

“We will also have the opportunity to hear from the ISPCC on cybersecurity and safer internet. This is an area where the ISPCC have been consistently proactive, going back to their Safe Click Code campaign and beyond. Their recently published guidelines, in partnership with Vodafone, reinforce this commitment to cybersecurity for children, young adults and parents alike. Members welcome this opportunity to engage with the ISPCC and to hear their expert opinion on how we perform in this area.”

This meeting will be streamed on Facebook Live and can also be viewed on our website here.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
