Committee on Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural & Gaeltacht Affairs resumes hearings on Brexit and border communities

9 May 2017, 14:27

The Committee on Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural & Gaeltacht Affairs will resume its hearings on the potential impact of Brexit on the future of community, social and economic development and cooperation in border counties tomorrow, Wednesday, 10 May 2017.

The schedule for tomorrow’s meeting is:

(i) 2.30 p.m. Co-operation Ireland
(ii)3.30 p.m. Centre for Cross Border Studies
(iii)4.30 p.m. InterTrade Ireland

Cathaoirleach of the Committee Peadar Tóibín said: “The Committee will continue its focus on the impact of Brexit on border communities and what needs to be done to foster community, social and economic co-operation in light of Brexit.

The communities in the border region are dependent on each other for their continued economic growth and the potential imposition of a hard border following Brexit would have a serious detrimental impact on their continued economic growth and cohesion.

“At our meeting tomorrow, we will hear from representatives of Co-operation Ireland, the Centre for Cross Border Studies and InterTrade Ireland to get their perspectives on the impact of Brexit and how best the particular issues facing communities and businesses in the border region can be addressed.”

This meeting will start at 2.30pm, tomorrow, Wednesday, 10 May, 2017 in Committee Room 4, Leinster House. Committee proceedings can be viewed live here.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
