PAC to conduct initial examination of Financial Procedures in Garda College

The Committee at a private meeting today, expressed the view that the recommendations made in the Interim report should be acted on immediately and that the Committee’s examination of the issues and implications of the report should not be used to delay the implementation of any necessary changes

The Chairman Deputy Seán Fleming said “The Committee today decided to carry out a focused and timebound examination of matters related to the interim report. We expect to call witnesses in the next week or so and complete our hearings by mid-June, delivering our preliminary report with a target date of 6 July 2017.”

“Given that the Internal auditors have yet to complete their work, it is not the intention that this examination by the Committee will be exhaustive. Matters related to the finance of the Garda College have their origin in actions that span several decades and it is not feasible at this point to consider these in full. Certain issues may be dealt with in future modules or examinations by the Committee.”
