Budgetary Oversight Committee to meet with the Irish Exporters Association on the revised capital plan

The Committee on Budgetary Oversight will tomorrow meet with representatives from the Irish Exporters Association to discuss the revised capital plan. The Committee will have the opportunity to discuss with the IEA, issues such as connectivity to ports and airports, maintaining Ireland's competitiveness on the global stage, and how best to prepare for Brexit.

The meeting will commence at 4.00pm in Committee Room 3 tomorrow, Tuesday, 23 May 2017.

Committee Chairman, John Paul Phelan TD, said “As the body responsible for helping their members grow their exports to world markets, the IEA are ideally placed to present to us their findings on how the revised capital plan should help and assist this key economic sector. CSO figures show that the value of Irish exports in March alone reached €11 billion which demonstrates the strength of the sector and the absolute necessity that we continue to support it however possible.”

“As we move to finalise our report on the revised capital plan, and in the context of Budget 2018, Members are aware that while public finances are recovering there is a need to ensure that what is spent through the plan delivers measurable results and doesn’t get eroded through inflation or other costs - and we welcome the expert opinion of the Irish Exporters Association in this regard. We will also take the opportunity to explore what steps are being taken in exploring new markets and addressing key issues such as the risk attached to currency fluctuation.”

Committee proceedings can be viewed live here.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
