Health Committee to engage with the EU Commissioner on Health and Food Safety

22 May 2017, 10:16

The Joint Committee on Health will tomorrow meet with Mr. Vytenis Andriukaitis, European Commissioner for Health and Food Safety.

The meeting will commence at 12.00pm in Committee Room 3 tomorrow, Tuesday, 23 May 2017.

Committee Chairman Dr. Michael Harty TD said “The Health and Food Safety brief is a wide ranging one but, as the EU Commissioner with responsibility for coordinating knowledge on the performance of Member State national health systems with the aim of shaping national and EU policy, we warmly welcome Commissioner Andriukaitis to our meeting tomorrow.”

“Setting health policy, and the management of health services, is a matter for Government but tomorrow’s meeting is an opportunity for Members to hear about the work that is being done in this area at EU Commission level, and what supports are in place. Members will also present to Commissioner Andriukaitis the unique and challenging issues facing the Irish health system, not least the questions that the ongoing Brexit negotiations pose for the island of Ireland.”

Committee proceedings can be viewed live here.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
