Agriculture Committee to discuss diversification of tillage sector

12 Jun 2017, 14:10

The Joint Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine will meet tomorrow, Tuesday, 13 May at 4pm in Committee Room 1, Leinster House.

Representatives from Teagasc will brief the Committee on the diversification of the tillage sector in Ireland.

Committee Chair, Pat Deering TD, said: “Our meeting tomorrow will focus on what can be done to improve crops, yields, and revenue streams in the tillage sector. There are numerous issues facing tillage farmers, including funding, crop diversification and disease control. Support for tillage in an animal-dominated agriculture industry needs to be increased, while meeting environmental needs and maximising crop yield potential. Tomorrow, the Committee will engage directly with Teagasc to examine the economic and scientific potential of tillage farming in Ireland."

Committee proceedings can be viewed live here.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
