EU Affairs Committee to discuss the White Paper on the Future of Europe with Mr. Gerry Kiely

The Joint Committee on European Union Affairs will tomorrow meet with Mr. Gerry Kiely, Head of the European Commission Representation in Ireland. The Committee will discuss the White Paper on the Future of Europe, produced by the European Commission.

The meeting will commence at 2.00pm in Committee Room 1 tomorrow, Wednesday, 21 June 2017.

Committee Chairman, Michael Healy Rae TD, said “At our meeting with Mr. Kiely, we will take an in-depth look at the White Paper on the Future of Europe and begin a process of examining what input Ireland should be making to the process. This white paper is a strategic discussion document that puts forward a number of possible scenarios for the future of the Union. These scenarios include focusing on delivering the existing positive reform agenda, focusing on the single market, allowing Member States to do more together in specific areas, being more efficient in selected policy areas or indeed expanding the remit and responsibility of the Union.”

“In the course of our discussion, Members will look to promote the Irish interest in the future of Europe and this continues the work of the Committee in this area – not least in the Brexit negotiations which got underway in Brussels this week.”
